FAQ

What is F1pundit?

F1pundit is the new Formula 1 prediction game launched for 2007 by topPUNDIT.com. You can play F1pundit using the same username and password that you have for topPUNDIT, if you are already registered to play our football game.

Is F1pundit a fantasy type of competition?

No, F1pundit is a web-based sports prediction league game where pundits predict the results of motor races. Generally, it is much harder than people would imagine to score highly each week, but therein lies the fun. F1pundit's prediction leagues require far less research and is far less restrictive than your average fantasy F1 game (where players chose an imaginary team of drivers, engines, chassis etc). topPUNDIT is a computerised web-based facilitator for 'Prediction Leagues'.

Why choose topPUNDIT?

It's very simple. F1 is the most popular motorsport in the world and many people have very strong opinions about the outcomes of every race. F1pundit allows those opinions to be put to the test by rewarding pundits with points if their judgement is proved correct. Furthermore topPUNDIT allows pundits to compete against their friends, colleagues, drinking buddies and associates in their own private league. Our programme automatically does all the tallying of points for you, automatically generates email reminders and generally runs itself, leaving you free to concentrate on your predictions and win the 'bragging rights' that go with being the best of the bunch.

How is F1pundit different?

F1pundit is different from other web-based prediction leagues in the user experience you get when playing the game. Each league is run by a manger, who has access to the 'Pit Lane'. Here, they can choose different preferences for how the game is run. The Pit Lane manager can set deadlines, upload YouTube videos, send out email reminders and even upload messages visible only to the pundits in that specific league. This means that each league is highly personalised and more fun to play in. Pundits can also keep in touch through league-specific noticeboards, meaning you don't have to keep going back to emails to keep the banter flying.

How do you play F1pundit?

Very simply, you can either join an existing league (that a friend may have told you about) or you can set up your own league for you and your mates. You will need a valid email address and will need to choose your username and password. If you are joining an existing league, ask that league's Pit Lane manager for the league passcode - you will need this in the registration process to ensure you are assigned to the correct league. If you are setting up a new league, you will be taken through the process step by step, from choosing a league name and competition that you want to predict, all the way through to choosing a league passcode that you can pass on to your friends. By setting up the league you automatically become Pit Lane manager for that league, allowing you to change your preferences for deadlines and scoring systems etc.

Is F1pundit complicated to use?

We built this website with ease of use and simplicity in mind. Once you are set up as a pundit in a particular league, you will receive email reminders when the next race is placed on the system. Once you login, you simply click 'Enter Predictions' and input your forecast for the coming week's race and click save. Points scoring is automated and after each week it is displayed in your respective league table.

Are there prizes for the winners?

F1pundit does not offer prizes for winners of the various league competitions with the exception, in some cases, of a nicely engraved trophy. Prizes can be organised by individual league managers if they so wish, but we recommend that they check with their local laws and regulations to see what is allowed under the laws of the country they reside or operate in. In some free to play competitions F1pundit may offer sponsor's prizes from time to time.

What are the charges for playing F1pundit?

F1pundit charges very low fees for the use of its facility. These fees are known as 'subscriptions' and cover the operational costs for data input, pundit and site maintenance. A normal F1 season league costs an individual pundit £7.00 or US$13.00 to subscribe for the season. Please note, fees are payable by all pundits including the manger. There are a couple of options for payment, either by credit card as individuals, or a single payment for the whole league (the manager will in that case have to collect all the pundit's subscriptions themselves). The manager chooses which option best suits his bunch of friends.

Are competition entry fees refundable?

Sorry, once you had paid your fees they are non-refundable. A pundit may wish to withdraw for the competition at any time, but their subscription fee cannot be returned. If there are additional fees applied by the local league manager, it is not an area under our control and a matter between the pundit and league manager to negotiate or decide upon.

What competitions can we predict on?

At F1pundit we can facilitate just about any competition so long as there is enough demand. If a league manager approaches us saying that they want to set up a prediction league for the World rally Championships, we can easily facilitate it by inputting the team names, race dates and results. So long as we can accurately verify the fixture list and results, we can accomodate most requests. F1pundit is not restricted to just F1 either. Prediction leagues and scoring systems will soon be available for sports like Cricket, Rugby, Football and major North American sports, through the topPUNDIT family of website

Is F1pundit available in other languages apart from English?

At present the main pages are in English only, but overview pages and emails are available in other languages, dependent upon individual league requests. Pit Lane managers can also post their messages in whatever language they choose. Templates for other languages or 'country' pages will be made available in the near future.

As a league manager, can I run my own competition independently?

Absolutely! We provide an access area called 'The Pit lane'. Here a league manager can have password access to set up and run a league. Upon access into their own private Pit Lane, they can invite players, edit player profiles, add new players, input their own fixtures and results for their particular competition and mass email their list. All the Bootroom manager needs to do in dealings with F1pundit is to account for the admin fees based on their volume of pundits in their league.

Does F1pundit allow tailor-made or sponsored pages?

Yes, at F1pundit we can provide a unique template for people or companies that may want to set up their own league(s) using a local sponsor or with unique features, images or a specialised look. Of course this adaptation is chargeable at a reasonable fee. If someone wants a duplicate style of web site but with their own new-look, this can also be catered for at a cost, however the ownership and proprietary software still remains the property of topPUNDIT.

What makes F1pundit different to other prediction league web sites?

F1pundit is different to most other prediction league web sites because focuses on participation in a league of pundits that generally already know each other. It's much like a 'pub' league whereby you are competing against people you know for the 'bragging rights'. This is as opposed to playing in a massive league of hundreds or even thousands of other players that you do not know and therefore F1pundit put's the competition element back into what you are doing. Adding to the fact that we keep the scoring systems simple and cater to the individual profile of the pundit, F1pundit remains more personalised and more fun to play. We don't want to waste people's time with trying to achieve an impossible winning target and encourage the pundit to beat their friends as well as enjoying the competitive banter that arises throughout a full championship.

I'd like to set up a league now, but haven't got 10 pundits yet?

If you want to set up and play but can't get 10 pundits together at the moment, simply contact us and tell us about it. It's very possible that we have people on our lists that reside in the same country or same area as yourself, that we can refer you to for adding on to your league, or we could possibly get you and your friends entered into an existing league in the same country.

Can topPUNDIT be accessed other ways than via the Internet?

Coming very soon pundits will be able to access fixtures for predicting via WAP. The WAP facility will provide prediction pages, results and other features. In addition, access to subscribing will be available via SMS. SMS alerts will also be available for prediction reminders.
